the edge of this photo was burnt from a fire. my dad said that Lewis(Cookie) and himself were teenagers in this photo. showing off their pistols for some reason.

I think there was an 8 to 10 year difference in their ages, so Lewis was probably in his early 20's in this photo. Our brother Scott has a strong resemblance to his uncle Lewis (Cookie). the same long nose with a pronounced bump, our dad Walt, didnt have that, but from the photo of old Mr. Barclay, lewis & scott favour him.
where do you think this pic was taken? Tennessee, or lower Md?

It is so weird to see a Barclay man in overalls.

sorry shirley i didn't mean to delete your post. just that it said the same thing as the one you had just posted.
anyway, i never saw my dad wear bibs, but uncle charlie wore them when he was older. i think they are comfortable for bigger guys.
also, my dad said that he and some of his brothers did custom farming, where you go till and plant someone elses farm for them. the owner pays you and he gets the gain or loss if there is one, not like sharecropping. so i am guessing they were possibly farming at that time.

dad was in the army, then the army air corps, for quite a few years. when he left the service, he took his uniforms to a seamstress and had his winter (wool) uniforms dyed black. the summer uniforms (cotton) he left khaki. he wore these every day when i was a kid. summer was the khaki pants and a plain white t-shirt. he always took the time to look neat and clean, even with his business as an excavator, using a backhoe, bulldozer, and a shovel when needed.
boyd also had an excavation business, but boyd had a problem his cash flow. when he got paid, he'd go on a little vacation (at the liquor store!) sometimes even before he paid his helpers (usually his sons!) so his sons preferred to work for our dad (walt). i think almost every one of us cousins up here in md worked for dad!
